Former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has declared that he will not defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to follow Governor Ademola Adeleke, who recently switched to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.
Speaking on Thursday during the second matriculation ceremony of the Alolade Oyinlola College of Health Sciences and Information Technology in Okuku, Oyinlola accused President Bola Tinubu of being the “unseen force” behind the protracted crises rocking the PDP.
“I won’t leave PDP unless it goes into extinction. I am not following Demola to Accord (Party). At my age, I can’t be pushed around,” said Oyinlola, who will turn 75 in February 2026. “I’m gradually leaving active politics.”
The former military administrator of Lagos State alleged that President Tinubu is intentionally destabilising the main opposition party to ease his path to a second term in 2027.
“The problem would have been solved but for the interference of Tinubu. He sees PDP as a major challenge poised on his 2027 ambition. He doesn’t want to run, he wants to walk into the Villa,” Oyinlola stated.
Oyinlola, a founding member of the PDP and former National Secretary of the party, remains a significant voice in Southwest politics.
