Just a week after the abduction and eventual release of 38 worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State has again been thrust into fear as some 11 residents were reportedly kidnapped on Monday evening in Isapa, an agrarian community in Ekiti Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred around 6pm, sent shockwaves through the town. According to findings by The PUNCH, between 20 and 30 armed bandits invaded the community, arriving with a large herd of cattle and shooting indiscriminately as residents scattered in panic.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen swept through multiple sections of Isapa, firing into homes and forcing families to flee into nearby bushes. Bullet holes were later discovered in walls, doors and windows, evidence of the intensity of the assault.
A community leader, who spoke under strict anonymity for fear of reprisal, confirmed that 11 persons were abducted, seven of them from one family. Among the victims, he said, are a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers and several children.
He identified some of the abductees as Talatu Kabiru; six-year-old Magaji; five-year-old Kande; 10-year-old Hadiza; and another child, Mariam, aged six.
