Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, days after resuming office following the lifting of emergency rule in the state.
Addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, Fubara described the interaction as a “father-son discussion,” adding that the President offered him guidance on maintaining stability in Rivers.
“You are aware that suspension was lifted at midnight on the 17th, and I came in on the 19th,” the governor said. “Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr President and to tell him that I am back, and I have also resumed my responsibility as the governor of Rivers State. It was a thank-you visit and also to seek his advice on areas that could lead to crisis, so we avoid them.”
Fubara, who had addressed Rivers residents earlier in the week upon his return to office, reiterated that peace had been restored in the state.
“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” he assured.
The governor also revealed that he resisted pressure to challenge the constitutionality of the emergency rule and the suspension of democratic institutions in Rivers, opting instead to wait for its lifting to ensure stability.
