President Bola Tinubu has revealed that he initially avoided watching the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final between Nigeria and Morocco, fearing the stress could raise his blood pressure.
Speaking while hosting the victorious Super Falcons at the Aso Villa on Monday evening, Tinubu admitted he was overwhelmed with anxiety during the high-stakes final played in Rabat.
“Honestly, I did not want to watch the match. I didn’t want high blood pressure,” the president said, recounting his emotions as Nigeria went two goals down.
“But people came into my room and turned on my TV to that channel. When it was 2-0, I got very restless and very offended. But I was still there watching,” he said.
“I was impressed by the indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage of the team,” he added.
Recall that The Super Falcons pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2, securing their record-extending 12th WAFCON title. Tinubu praised the team’s courage and fighting spirit.
