The Olakulehin Royal Family has formally announced the funeral arrangements for the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.

According to a statement by Olasunmbo Olakulehin, the monarch’s first son, the late Olubadan will be laid to rest on Friday, August 8, 2025, with a state burial approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The interment will follow a church service at the Cathedral of St Peter’s, Aremo, Ibadan, scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.

The burial activities will be preceded by a series of events planned in honour of the revered monarch, as part of a 21-day official mourning period.

Funeral rites begin on Sunday, August 3, with the Olubadan Olakulehin Football Cup Semi-Finals taking place at Bishop Phillips Academy Stadium, Ibadan, with matches scheduled for 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

The programme continues on Monday, August 4, with the Olakulehin Table Tennis Tournament Preliminaries, further showcasing the late king’s passion for youth development and sports.

Oba Olakulehin, who ascended the throne as the 43rd Olubadan, was a prominent figure in Oyo State’s traditional hierarchy and a father figure to many.
