The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has hinted at the reasons behind the failure of past directives for the withdrawal of officers from VIP security assignments.
Speaking at a meeting with Police Strategic Commanders in Abuja, Egbetokun said the directive of the president has shut the doors for governors or ministers, to influence officers deployment.
The IGP who dismissed reports that 120,000 officers were attached to VIP’s before the directive of the president, said the redeployment of 11,566 police personnel will strengthen internal security and enhance community policing.
He said the measure is expected to improve response time, deepen community engagement, and support current operations against criminal networks nationwide.
Egbetokun assured Nigerians that more reforms are underway to reposition the Police for improved efficiency, accountability, and stronger collaboration with citizens.
