The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) eill soon release the names of political associations shortlisted for registration as political parties, following the conclusion of by-elections held across 12 states on Saturday.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed that preparations for the next stage of the registration process are already underway.
He disclosed that a dedicated online portal has been created for associations seeking recognition as political parties, and applications submitted through the platform are currently under review.
Olumekun explained that the commission had begun shortlisting associations that met the legal and administrative requirements, with details to be published shortly.
“Having created the portal for party registration, the commission has commenced the shortlisting of the associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage. Details will be released immediately after the 16 by-elections in 12 States scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025,” he said.
