Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has announced his intention to contest the Lagos State governorship seat in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate confirmed he would once again vie for the office, this time under the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he joined in March after resigning from the PDP.
Jandor explained that his defection was due to what he described as indiscipline and anti-party activities within the opposition. He also pledged to support whoever emerges as APC’s candidate, including Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
When asked if he would step aside should Seyi Tinubu emerge as the party’s choice, Jandor said all aspirants would rally behind the eventual flagbearer. However, he noted that he has more experience in electoral contests compared to the president’s son.
“Okay, all the names you mentioned—Seyi, former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, and Tokunbo Abiru—are qualified to contest for Lagos governor, and this includes Seyi himself,” he said. “But aside from the former governor, none of the others mentioned, including Seyi, have actually contested a governorship election like I have.”
The 2027 Lagos governorship race is expected to draw intense competition within the ruling APC as political alignments continue to take shape.
