Ukraine has reached a “common understanding” with the United States on a proposed peace deal that can end the o going war with Russia, following a weekend of intensive negotiations in Geneva.
The framework is built around a 28-point plan earlier submitted to Kyiv by Washington, which both sides have now revised. In a post on social media, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the proposal “has been fine-tuned, with additional input from both sides,” signalling a new phase in diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict.
Trump said he has directed his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to travel to Moscow next week for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile, US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll is expected in Kyiv in the coming days for further consultations with Ukrainian officials.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed readiness to meet Trump to resolve remaining “sensitive points,” adding that he hopes the meeting can take place before the month ends.
“I am counting on further active cooperation with the American side and with President Trump,” Zelensky said. “Much depends on America, because Russia pays the greatest attention to American strength.”
The Ukrainian leader also noted earlier that the original 28-point proposal has been streamlined, with certain provisions removed as negotiations progress.
