Lagos state government has shut down Itedo Market, Lekki, indefinitely due to repeated environmental violations and illegal roadside trading.
In a post on social media, the commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab said the decisive action was taken today after several warnings went unhidden.
According to him, five individuals were arrested for flouting state laws, and three Black Marias have been stationed at the location to deter further illegal activity and maintain order.
Wahab said the state government will not tolerate disregard for environmental regulations or unauthorized street trading.
