The Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) has intensified cleanup operations along the Lagos–Badagry Road corridor, clearing major waste blackspots and restoring order to one of the state’s busiest commercial routes.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a statement shared on X, outlining progress made over the past week.
According to the commissioner, the Alaba Rago median has been successfully cleared, while substantial portions of accumulated waste have been evacuated from Volks through Agric Bus Stop.
He noted that sanitation teams have continued monitoring and cleaning already cleared sections to prevent a resurgence of indiscriminate dumping along the corridor.
Wahab explained that the operation is being carried out systematically.
The remaining stretch of the Agric median is next in line for clearance, after which cleanup efforts will extend to Onireke and Abule Ado/Trade Fair. The exercise will then move to the heaps between Agboju, Mazamaza and Mile 2, concluding the current phase of the corridor-wide intervention.
He stressed that the initiative goes beyond waste evacuation.
The broader objective, he said, is to restore environmental order, safeguard road infrastructure and protect public health in the densely populated and commercially active axis.
The state government, he added, will sustain enforcement and monitoring measures to ensure the medians do not revert to illegal dumpsites.
The commissioner commended LAWMA officials and the agency’s Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, for working under challenging conditions to deliver results.
He also urged residents and traders along the Ojo–Badagry Road to patronise approved waste collection services and refrain from illegal disposal, reiterating that a clean Lagos requires both government commitment and responsible citizen participation.
