Logic is one of humanity’s proudest inventions. It gives structure to thought, discipline to argument, and clarity to confusion. It is the scaffolding upon which ideas are built. Yet, for all its elegance, logic remains a tool, powerful, yes, but still subordinate to something older, deeper, and far more enduring: truth.
Truth does not depend on logic to exist. It does not wait for human reasoning to validate it. It stands before logic, beyond logic, and sometimes even in defiance of logic. A thing can be logically consistent and still be fundamentally false. History is full of such examples, systems built on impeccable reasoning but rotten foundations.
Logic is never a substitute for the truth.
Logic can be manipulated. Truth cannot.
Logic can be arranged. Truth simply is.
Logic can win arguments. Truth wins reality.
A lie wrapped in flawless logic is still a lie. And truth, even when expressed clumsily, retains its purity. Discernment is the faculty that recognizes this difference. It is the inner compass that senses when something “fits” logically but fails morally, spiritually, or existentially.
However, only discerning people know the difference between logic and truth.
Discernment is not taught in classrooms. It is cultivated through experience, humility, and a willingness to see beyond appearances. It is the quiet wisdom that whispers, “This sounds right, but something is off.” Only discerning people know that logic, when divorced from truth, becomes a performance—impressive, but hollow.
Then the Holy Spirit gives discernment.
Truth, on the other hand, carries a weight that logic cannot manufacture. It resonates. It aligns. It settles the soul. It does not need applause or agreement. It simply stands, waiting for the world to catch up.
In an age where cleverness is often mistaken for wisdom, and argumentation is mistaken for insight, your line becomes a necessary reminder:
The brilliance of logic is no match for the authority of truth.
For in the end, logic may persuade minds, but truth transforms lives. Because Jesus Christ affirmed that He is the Truth.
And so, logic may guide the mind, but only Truth can guide the soul.
