Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has issued a public warning for residents to be discerning and vigilant against politicians making unrealistic promises, as the political climate begins to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He gave this caution on Monday during the annual Interfaith Prayer Session marking the New Year in Ibadan.
The governor identified 2026 as a pivotal preparatory year for the polls, urging the electorate to critically assess those seeking public office.
“As we move closer to 2027, people should be careful of politicians who will be making promises that cannot be fulfilled,” Makinde stated, according to a release issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
Highlighting the performance of his administration, the governor expressed confidence in a seamless transition of power to a successor from his political team, ensuring continuity in governance and development.
“Given the performance of my administration, residents should expect continuity in governance,” he said, projecting that a member of his team would take over the state’s leadership in 2027.
Governor Makinde reaffirmed his commitment to the ongoing development of Oyo State and the welfare of its people, positioning his warning as guidance for voters to prioritize track records and credible plans over empty electoral pledges in the coming political season.
