Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has responded to allegations by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose that the state received N50 billion from the Federal Government as relief following the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde clarified that while the state government did request N50 billion in federal support, only N30 billion was eventually disbursed.
Fayose had made the claim on Friday during an interview on TVC, asserting that Makinde failed to publicly disclose the financial assistance from President Bola Tinubu’s administration while openly refusing a request to help organise the All Progressives Congress in the state.
“But you did not tell Nigerians that, at the prerogative, at the mercy of Mr President, you got N50bn in support of the explosion in Ibadan. He never said that to Nigerians. So, the President can say the explosion is not worth more than N10bn,” Fayose stated.
In response, Olanrewaju noted that a widely circulated letter cited by Fayose only showed Oyo State’s request for intervention funds and did not prove the alleged N50 billion disbursement. He reiterated that the actual amount released was N30 billion.
