Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has vowed to reinforce the state’s security framework, committing to decisive actions that will guarantee safety across all communities.
The governor made the pledge during the grand finale and wreath-laying ceremony marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan.
Addressing officers and residents, Governor Makinde expressed profound gratitude to the members of the Armed Forces for their steadfast service in safeguarding the state. He urged the security personnel to remain unwavering in their duties, emphasizing that their efforts form the bedrock of peace and stability necessary for development.
The governor revealed that plans are underway to establish a dedicated welfare scheme for the families of five forest guards recently slain at the Oloka Village axis of the old Oyo National Park in Oriire Local Council.
The event also featured commendations from the Nigerian Legion in Oyo State. The Interim State Chairman, Julius Alabi, praised both the Federal and State Governments for their consistent efforts in improving the welfare of legion members and providing other critical forms of support to veterans and their families.
