Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will commence a one-month leave on Friday, August 29, 2025, with his deputy, Bayo Lawal, stepping in as acting governor during the period.
The governor’s decision was formally communicated to the State House of Assembly in a letter read at Tuesday’s plenary by the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.
In line with Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution, Makinde requested approval for his vacation and formally handed over executive powers to his deputy.
“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September, 2025,” the letter stated.
The Assembly acknowledged receipt of the correspondence, pledging support for a seamless transfer of responsibilities and assuring citizens of the continuity of governance.
With the lawmakers’ affirmation, Lawal is expected to assume full duties of the governor’s office from August 29 until Makinde’s return on September 29.
Meanwhile, the House adjourned plenary sitting to September 16, 2025.
