The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, has appealed to residents to avoid risking their lives by staying in dilapidated buildings or structures already marked for demolition.
Director of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, while reacting to the collapse of a two-storey building at 54 Cole Street, Oyingbo, said the structure, which had previously shown signs of distress, gave way while residents were still inside.
According to her, one person has been confirmed dead, while 26 survivors were rescued from the collapsed
An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen confirmed that the building had been marked by the state government, but dubious agents went ahead to admit unsuspecting tenants into the building.
As of this morning, 15 people including seven men, four women and four children were rescued with varying degrees of injuries and taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute‑Metta and General Hospital, Odan in Lagos Island.
