A 400 level student of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, Miss Babatunde Oyindamola Feranmi, has been selected for an international internship in Japan. She emerged as one of the few successful candidates out of more than 14,000 global applicants.
The internship, which is fully sponsored by the Government of Japan, is organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the FY2024 Amendment Co creation type Technical Human Resources Exchange Project. The initiative is designed to strengthen collaboration with the Global South through the exchange of highly skilled professionals in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology.
Miss Oyindamola’s selection stands as another testament to McPherson University’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and global relevance. Her achievement further shows the University’s dedication to nurturing talents capable of thriving on international platforms.
While congratulating the student on her exceptional accomplishment, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, commended her for distinguishing herself among thousands of applicants and for bringing honour to the University. He described her success as a reflection of the quality of training and mentorship provided at McPherson University. He urged her to be a worthy representative of the institution, saying, “Be our good ambassador; be the image of the University. I wish you a safe trip to and from Japan.”
Professor Igbasan further encouraged her to make the most of the opportunity by being focused and disciplined throughout her stay. He advised her to pay attention to every training and learning process in order to grow as a person, emphasizing that “punctuality is the soul of business.”
Miss Oyindamola, who previously won the Best Hackathon 2024 Competition, expressed delight at her selection for the prestigious programme. She described the application process as rigorous and competitive, involving four different screening stages before the final selection.
Speaking on her expectations, she noted that she looks forward to expanding her knowledge and exploring new areas of technology. She added that she is open to learning new skills, including software engineering, since the company she will be interning with focuses on software development.
According to the official Internship Acceptance Notice from the Japanese Government, the programme tagged Internships in Japan for AI and Tech is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing global cooperation and fostering technical human resource exchange with developing nations.
The internship is scheduled to hold from Friday, October 31 to Monday, December 15, 2025, and will focus primarily on Artificial Intelligence and technology innovation. The experience is expected to enhance her professional capacity and expose her to new global standards in technology and innovation.
