The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit and expired medical products valued at N15 billion in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The exercise, conducted on Thursday, highlights the agency’s ongoing battle against substandard and falsified drugs in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical market.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by the Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Martins Iluyomade, emphasized the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the health of Nigerians. She noted that the destruction was part of wider efforts to protect citizens from harmful and unregulated products.

Among the items destroyed were expired and counterfeit drugs, unregistered substances, and banned products including Analgin, Cocodamol, codeine cough syrup, tramadol, oxytocin, and several vaccines.

Adeyeye explained that the move was in line with NAFDAC’s strict regulatory framework governing the production, distribution, and sale of medicines, food, cosmetics, and packaged beverages across the country.

She assured that the agency would continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations to rid Nigerian markets of dangerous products and ensure public safety.
