The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says it is determined to close the metering gap and improve transparency and billing accuracy for electricity consumers.
NERC revealed this in Metering Factsheet for July and August 2025, noting that
Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), metered no fewer than 70,888 new electricity customers in August, 2025.
According to the factsheet, the total number of active customers across all DisCos increased from 11.89 million in July to 11.96 million in August 2025, with 6.58 million customers metered, a 55.01 per cent increase, compared to 54.71 per cent recorded in July.
The factsheet listed the top performing DisCos to include Eko with 84.25 per cent, Ikeja, 84.83 per cent, and Abuja, 73.92 per cent, highlighting the gradual progress in closing Nigeria’s metering gap
NERC recently approved the sum of N28 billion for the DisCos, to procure and install meters for unmetered Band ‘A’ and ‘B’ customers within their franchise areas.
