The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has called for strict compliance with legal provisions guiding the establishment and operation of state electricity regulatory bodies across the country.
Speaking while receiving a delegation from the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OYSERC), NERC Chairman, Musiliu Oseni, emphasised that all state commissions must ensure their take-off processes are firmly rooted in the laws that created them.
Oseni reaffirmed NERC’s readiness to provide both institutional and technical support to OYSERC and other State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs), stressing that such collaboration is essential for their stability and long-term effectiveness.
He noted that as Nigeria’s electricity market evolves, seamless coordination between federal and state regulators is crucial to building resilient institutions capable of delivering sustainable results for the power sector.
The OYSERC team was led by its Acting Chairman, Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin, who said the visit was intended to formally introduce the commission’s interim leadership and establish a strong working relationship with NERC.
Shangodoyin explained that the acting members were appointed to steer the commission during its transitional phase and to lay a solid foundation ahead of the appointment of substantive leadership.
