Nigeria completed a flawless group stage campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3–1 victory over Uganda in Fès, finishing atop Group C with a perfect nine points. Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, and Uganda’s hopes diminished when goalkeeper Salim Magoola was sent off early in the second half.

Raphael Onyedika scored twice in quick succession to extend Nigeria’s lead before Rogers Mato netted a late consolation for Uganda, who have been eliminated from the tournament.

Also, Tunisia secured second place in Group C after a hard-fought 1–1 draw with Tanzania in Rabat. Ismael Gharbi gave Tunisia the lead from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute following a VAR-reviewed foul, but Feisal Salum equalized for Tanzania with a fine curling effort in the 54th minute.

Tunisia advances to the Round of 16, while Tanzania remains hopeful of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.

In Group D, Senegal reaffirmed their championship credentials with a commanding 3–0 win over Benin in Tangiers to finish top of the group. Abdoulaye Seck opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 38th minute, Habib Diallo added a second just after the hour mark, and Cherif Ndiaye converted a stoppage-time penalty after captain Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off. Benin still advances as one of the best third-placed teams.

Meanwhile, DR Congo sealed second place in Group D with an emphatic 3–0 victory over Botswana in Rabat, inspired by a masterful performance from Gael Kakuta. The veteran midfielder set up Nathaniel Mbuku’s opener with an audacious backheel, scored a penalty before halftime, and added another goal in the second half. DR Congo will face Algeria in the Round of 16.
