The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a large-scale recruitment plan to bring over 94,000 new personnel into the country’s security services, beginning with the immediate enlistment of 50,000 police constables.
The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), confirmed on Thursday that the recruitment portal for police constables will be open from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026. The move follows a direct presidential directive from President Bola Tinubu aimed at strengthening community policing, enhancing internal security, and expanding the manpower of the police force.
Torty Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs for the PSC, stated that the recruitment is part of a broader security overhaul intended to bolster Nigeria’s capacity to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
While specific breakdowns for the remaining 44,000 recruits across other security agencies, such as the military, paramilitary, and intelligence services were not detailed in the announcement, the government emphasized that this mass recruitment represents a strategic effort to address critical staffing gaps and improve operational reach, especially in rural and high-risk areas.
