The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, has announced that Nigerian employees are beginning to see an increase in their take-home pay due to recently enacted tax legislation.
In a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, Oyedele cited early feedback from workers who received their January 2026 salaries, noting a visible reduction in Pay As You Earn (PAYE) deductions under the new framework.
He also stated that the decline in tax withholdings reflects the initial impact of the Federal Government’s ongoing tax reforms, which are designed to ease the financial burden on workers, boost disposable income, and stimulate broader economic growth.
Oyedele explained that the reforms are also aimed at simplifying tax administration and improving nationwide compliance. The changes are structured to provide targeted relief for formal-sector employees, for whom PAYE remains the primary method of income tax collection.
