Former Television host, sport caster and politician, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has formally declared her intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, pledging a campaign rooted in continuity, inclusion and responsible leadership.
Sarafa-Yusuf who is a member of the of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, said her decision followed extensive reflection and wide consultations, emphasizing that her ambition is driven by duty rather than political spectacle.
In a social media post, she described Ogun State as a hub of industry, intellect and culture, whose growth must be carefully managed to ensure equity and long-term sustainability.
Acknowledging the gender dimension of her candidacy, Sarafa-Yusuf said she hopes to inspire more women to pursue leadership roles in Nigeria, while maintaining that competence and vision — not symbolism — would define her campaign.
Reflecting on her 2022 gubernatorial bid, Sarafa-Yusuf said she remains committed to party cohesion and institutional balance, lessons she described as critical to strengthening democracy within the APC.
She also reaffirmed her respectful relationship with Governor Dapo Abiodun, stressing the importance of orderly transitions and governance continuity.
On concerns from Ogun West regarding political representation, she advocated inclusive dialogue while cautioning against actions that could destabilize the state.
Sarafa-Yusuf warned against populist politics that could undermine governance and party cohesion, emphasizing stability and institutional integrity.
