The Ogun State Government has released ₦6.75 billion for the payment of gratuity and additional pension benefits to retirees in the state.

the state’s Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka in a statement said the release Is part of the government’s continued efforts to address outstanding pension obligations and improve the welfare of retired workers.

He said ₦2.751 billion was released to pay gratuity to 432 beneficiaries, while another ₦4 billion was released for the payment of Additional Pension Benefits to eligible retirees from July 2025 to date.

Saka said the government remains committed to ensuring that workers who served the state meritoriously receive their retirement benefits despite competing demands on the state’s resources.

Explaining the Additional Pension Benefit, Saka said it was introduced to cushion the difference between the pension benefits retirees would have received under the old Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and what they are entitled to under the Contributory Pension Scheme

He further explained that while workers under the Contributory Pension Scheme have retirement savings in their Retirement Savings Accounts, some retirees could receive lower benefits than they would have been entitled to under the former scheme.
