The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has postponed his return to Ibadan, Oyo State, until July 28, when the traditional 21-day mourning period across Ibadanland for the late Olubadan would been completed.

According to palace sources, Oba Ladoja decided to observe the full mourning period in honour of his late predecessor before making any public appearances or formal return to the city.

“This is not just about tradition; it’s also a personal tribute to a revered monarch. Oba Ladoja has chosen to mourn Oba Olakulehin with dignity and respect,” the source stated.

To ensure continuity at the palace, Oba Ladoja has instructed the Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade, and the Ekerin Balogun, Akeem Adewoyin, to reopen the Olubadan Palace at Oke-Aremo and receive sympathisers on his behalf.

Recall that the palace, which was temporarily shut following Oba Olakulehin’s death, will now serve as a space for condolence visits until Ladoja’s official return.

Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and respected statesman, is expected to ascend the throne as the 44th Olubadan after the mourning rites conclude.
