The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has received a report proposing legal measures to tackle land grabbing in the city, including the creation of special tribunals for speedy prosecution of offenders.
The monarch received the report of the Niyi Akintola Anti-Land Grabbing Committee at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, located in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, Ladoja said the proposed framework would involve the enactment of bye-laws by local government councillors, in line with the Land Use Act, to establish special tribunals dedicated to handling land grabbing cases.
He noted that the tribunals would ensure accelerated hearings and prescribe clear sanctions for offenders, as part of efforts to curb the growing menace in Ibadan.
The committee was inaugurated on October 15, 2025, with a mandate to address land grabbing and related offences from a legal standpoint.
It is chaired by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Niyi Akintola and includes other members such as Musibau Adetunbi, Yinka Okunade, Rahman AbdulRaheem, and Tunji Thomas.
The Olubadan said the committee was granted the authority to co-opt professionals from various fields including town planning, surveying, security agencies, and the legal profession to strengthen its work and provide comprehensive solutions.
