One person has been confirmed dead after a fire broke out at a residential building on Agbaakin Street, behind Testing Ground, Iwo Road, Ibadan, on Monday evening.
The Oyo State Fire Service Chairman, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday.
According to Akinwande, the fire resulted from a lighted charcoal cooking pot left unattended which ignited nearby flammable materials. The blaze affected two rooms on the upper floor of a 12-room residential building.
Emergency services were alerted at 20:18 hours on Monday, December 8, 2025, and responded promptly.
“One female victim was recovered deceased, while two males were rescued alive,” Akinwande stated.
He credited the swift response of fire officers from both the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service with containing the fire to only two rooms, saving the entire building and other properties worth millions of naira.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
