The spokesperson for the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, says the monarch will not respond to the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, demanding the revocation of a chieftaincy title conferred on Ibadan businessman, Dotun Sanusi.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Moses Olafare disclosed that the Ooni specifically directed him to ignore the threat, describing it as “undignifyable.”
“We cannot dignify the undignifyable with an official response. We leave the matter to be handled in the public court of opinion, as it is already being treated,” Olafare wrote.
He added that the Ooni preferred to focus on unifying issues rather than those “capable of dividing us,” dismissing the ultimatum with the remark: “48 hours my foot!”
Recall that Alaafin Owoade had earlier accused the Ooni of overstepping his authority by conferring the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on Sanusi, insisting that only the Alaafin holds the exclusive right to bestow such titles across Yorubaland.
