The Oyo State Government has launched a new Entertainment Tax Clearance initiative aimed at enhancing event regulation and improving social amenities across the state.
The initiative was officially unveiled at an event held at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Secretariat, Ibadan, with government officials, event organizers, and venue owners in attendance.
Speaking during the launch, Hon. Adelabu Tunde, the Principal Consultant on the project, said the new permit system was designed to streamline compliance for event organizers hosting concerts, parties, weddings, and other entertainment activities within the state.
He emphasized the need for strong collaboration between event planners and venue owners, urging the latter to verify the tax clearance status of their clients before granting access to facilities.
“This initiative is not just about taxation; it’s about accountability and shared responsibility,” Tunde stated. “The revenue generated will be used to fund social amenities that directly benefit the people of Oyo State.”
He expressed optimism that residents and business operators would comply with the directive, adding that collective cooperation would drive growth, transparency, and sustainable development in the state’s entertainment and hospitality sectors.
Addressing concerns about possible double taxation, the Deputy Director of the Internal Revenue Service clarified that the entertainment permit is distinct from other levies and was introduced solely to ensure fairness and proper documentation in the entertainment industry.
The Oyo State Government reiterated its commitment to supporting creative enterprises and maintaining an enabling environment for the entertainment industry to thrive, while encouraging stakeholders to see the initiative as a partnership for development rather than a burden.
Officials assured that the funds realised from the tax would be reinvested into infrastructure, public services, and amenities that enhance the state’s growing tourism and events ecosystem.
