The Oyo State Government has said its sustained investment in the agricultural sector has led to increased food production and a noticeable drop in the prices of key food items across the state.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, made this known on Thursday while receiving the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, who paid him a courtesy visit to mark his birthday.
Olaleye said the state’s progress in food security was the result of Governor Seyi Makinde’s deliberate interventions in mechanised farming, improved seed distribution, fertiliser support, and farmer training programmes.
According to him, the agricultural initiatives introduced over the past three years have not only enhanced productivity but also helped cushion the impact of rising living costs on residents.
“We have recorded massive gains in agricultural output due to Governor Makinde’s consistent investment in the sector. Through mechanisation, fertiliser distribution, and continuous training, our farmers are now producing more efficiently, and this has translated into lower market prices for several food items,” Olaleye stated.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening rural development and expanding agricultural value chains to create jobs and sustain the current momentum in food production.
