Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has publicly challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the latter’s recent comments concerning the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State.
Speaking on Tuesday during the commissioning of the new Oyo State PDP Secretariat in Ibadan, Makinde pointedly questioned Wike’s authority to intervene, asking what the former Rivers State governor had done to strengthen the PDP in his own state to warrant such interference.
The event was attended by the party’s national chairman, Alhaji Aminu Turaki, alongside other top party leaders, elected officials, and supporters from across the state.
Wike had earlier stated that he was taking a keen interest in the PDP’s affairs in Oyo, a remark widely perceived as a direct challenge to Makinde’s leadership of the party in the state. In response, Makinde dismissed Wike’s comments as “misplaced,” insisting that the Oyo PDP remains “stable, focused, and united.”
The governor also expressed regret over aligning with Wike’s faction during the 2023 general elections, stating clearly that he has “now repented.”
Makinde presented the newly built party secretariat as tangible proof of the PDP’s organisational strength and internal cohesion in Oyo, crediting the party’s continued growth to inclusive leadership and collective discipline.
