The Oyo State Government has reiterated its ban on the use of mobile phones, smart watches, and Meta eyeglasses in schools, especially during examinations, warning that violators will face strict penalties.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, issued the warning on Wednesday during a meeting with key education stakeholders at the ministry’s conference room in Ibadan. Attendees included Permanent Secretaries, Inspectors-General of Education, and Heads of Departments.
Olayiwola said an official circular had already prohibited the use of mobile phones within school premises and examination halls, and called on school administrators to enforce the rule without exception.
He noted that beyond mobile phones, other smart devices such as smart watches and Meta eyeglasses were also banned, as they could be used to aid cheating during examinations.
“We must all work together to uphold the integrity of our education system and maintain discipline across our schools,” the commissioner said, urging teachers, parents, and guardians to closely monitor their wards.
The directive comes as part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to promote academic discipline and curb examination malpractice in public and private schools across Oyo State.
