The Oyo State Government has officially handed over 90 hectares of land to the Federal Government for the construction of the proposed Moniya Inland Dry Port in Ibadan, the state capital.
The formal handover took place on Friday along the Ibadan–Oyo road in Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area. The Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, presented the land documents to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Michael Olufemi.
Speaking at the event, Lawal described the Moniya Inland Dry Port as a transformative project with the potential to stimulate economic growth, strengthen the agricultural value chain, and promote industrialisation and infrastructure development within Oyo State and beyond.
He maintained that the project aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision of positioning Oyo as a major logistics and investment hub in Nigeria’s Southwest region.
According to him, “The establishment of the Moniya Inland Dry Port will not only enhance the state’s economic competitiveness but also contribute to national development by boosting trade, creating jobs, and improving supply chain efficiency.”
Lawal further noted that the dry port, when completed, would help decongest the Lagos seaports and ease the process of clearing goods, reducing the time and cost associated with cargo movement.
He also expressed optimism that the collaboration between the state and federal governments would fast-track the port’s development and deliver long-term socio-economic benefits to residents of Oyo and neighbouring states.
