The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has vowed to avoid a repeat of the nomination crisis that recently excluded the party from the ballot in Ekiti State’s upcoming election.
Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, Chairman of the state’s PDP caretaker committee, made the declaration on Wednesday, emphasizing that the party would strictly adhere to electoral laws and timelines to ensure its candidates are duly recognized.
In a statement reacting to the exclusion of the PDP candidate in Ekiti which resulted from the party’s failure to submit nomination papers within the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline, Akinoso affirmed the Oyo chapter’s commitment to internal democracy.
“As a party with a strong track record of internal democracy, we must prevent a recurrence of such an unfortunate event,” Akinoso stated. “We will present candidates in full compliance with the law ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
The declaration signals the party’s intent to strengthen its internal processes and avoid legal and administrative pitfalls that could jeopardize its participation in future elections.
