The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has officially flagged off the 2024 FGN-UBEC/SUBEB Intervention programme, marking a major push to improve educational resources across the state.
The ceremony, which took place on Friday at the OYOSUBEB headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan, signaled the commencement of a large-scale distribution of core textbooks, learning aids, and other essential instructional materials to public primary and junior secondary schools.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, provided a detailed breakdown of the intervention, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of basic education. He stated that the 2024 programme in Oyo State covers the distribution of thousands of core subject textbooks and learning materials.
According to Dr. Adeniran, the distribution includes 19,289 copies each of Primary Mathematics textbooks for Books 1, 2, and 3. Furthermore, 15,515 copies of Primary English textbooks for Books 1 to 3, and 15,111 copies each of Nursery English textbooks for Books 1, 2, and 3 have been allocated to schools across the state.
The Chairman also announced the provision of 6,673 copies each of Nursery Mathematics textbooks for Books 1, 2, and 3, as well as 2,500 copies each of Science and Technology textbooks for Books 1 to 3. In addition to textbooks, the board distributed 40,000 six-year Continuous Assessment Cards, produced internally by OYOSUBEB.
Beyond academic materials, the intervention also prioritizes the welfare and comfort of pupils. Dr. Adeniran disclosed that 6,675 school bags, 6,675 pairs of sandals, 6,675 exercise books, and 6,675 pencils have been set aside for distribution. An additional 6,000 pairs of sandals under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme were also included in the consignment.
