The Oyo State Government has announced plans to construct public toilet facilities at strategic locations across the state, with a major focus on Ibadan.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday, noting that the project will be executed in partnership with a private firm, Zero Degrees and Solutions.
Aderinto called on investors, non-governmental organisations, religious bodies and residents to support the initiative, saying collective effort is needed to end open defecation in the state.
A representative of the firm, Abdullateef Abdul-Ganiu, said the facilities would be built using modern technology and designed to meet global standards.
He added that the toilets would be user-friendly, accessible to persons living with disabilities and subject to regular maintenance.
According to him, users will pay a token fee ranging between N50 and N100, which will be used to sustain the facilities and ensure proper upkeep.
The commissioner expressed confidence that a significant portion of the project would be completed before this year’s World Sanitation Day, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving public hygiene and environmental standards.
