Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to a professional rematch nearly 11 years after their first encounter, which remains the richest fight in boxing history.
The two legends will face off at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Saturday, 19th September, with the bout set to be streamed live on Netflix. Mayweather, 48, announced his fourth comeback from retirement last week, while Pacquiao, 47, has already fought once since his own return to the ring.
Mayweather’s last professional fight was in 2017, when he stopped Conor McGregor in the 10th round. Pacquiao retired in 2021 to focus on his political career in the Philippines but returned last July to face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, with the fight ending in a draw.
Their first meeting in 2015, billed as the “Fight of the Century,” saw Mayweather claim a unanimous decision victory in Las Vegas.
Details regarding the number of rounds and weight class for the rematch have not yet been confirmed.
Pacquiao, who won 12 world titles across eight weight divisions, said the fans had waited long enough and deserved the rematch.
He added that he intended to hand Mayweather the first loss on his professional record.
