The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the 2026 Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 8, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party notably absent from the roster.
The list, which was made public by the electoral body ahead of the poll, outlines political parties and their candidates cleared to contest in the election.
In a statement by the Osun State Public Relations Officer of INEC, Musa Olurode, the commission confirmed that several political parties successfully submitted candidates and fulfilled the requirements to participate in the election.
According to the statement, the cleared parties include the Accord Party, Action Alliance, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, All Progressives Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Action Peoples Party, Boot Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Peoples Redemption Party, Young Progressives Party and the Zenith Labour Party.
However, the absence of the PDP and Labour Party, two of the country’s prominent political parties has drawn attention as preparations intensify for the governorship contest.
The electoral commission stated that the publication of the final list is in line with the electoral timetable for the Osun governorship election, which is expected to determine the next occupant of the state’s top political office.
