A former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi wants Nigerians to rise above tribal, religious, and political differences and embrace unity as the foundation for building a better nation.
Obi made the call on Sunday during a courtesy visit to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his private residence in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.
He described love and unity among citizens as essential ingredients for national progress, stressing that Nigeria could only reach its potential if citizens worked together in harmony.
“First, I’m here to pay my sincere respect to royalty, to the Olubadan-designate before the installation. I’m here to pay respect for the man I have deep respect for,” Obi said.
“My visit is to congratulate him as the next 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. My visit is about Nigeria, about selfless leadership, leadership that is committed to turning our society around. Can we unite and love each other to build a better country? We have no other country except this one. We must all build it together for the benefit of everybody.”
The former governor of Anambra State described Ibadan as a city with immense historical and political importance, noting its central role in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Expressing optimism about Ladoja’s forthcoming reign, Obi said the Olubadan-designate’s experience as a former senator, governor, and business leader would guide him in steering Ibadan to greater heights.
