Phoenix Athletics Sports Club has announced the appointment of Alao Temitope as its new Head Coach, marking the beginning of a new era of ambition and excellence for the team.
The Nigerian-born coach, who holds an Advanced Coaching License from the National Institute for Sports (NIS), brings over 15 years of professional football experience and a strong reputation for developing young talent and fostering disciplined, high-performing teams.
Before venturing into coaching, Temitope enjoyed a successful playing career, representing some of Nigeria’s top clubs, including Heartland FC, Enyimba FC, Kwara United FC, and Ekiti United FC. Known for his leadership and versatility on the pitch, he earned recognition as one of the most dependable players of his generation.
His career highlights include representing Nigeria at the U17 level in 2008, winning the WAFU U17 Gold Cup that same year, finishing as Nigeria Premier League runner-up with Heartland FC in the 2008/09 season, and reaching the CAF Champions League final in 2009.
After retiring from active football, Temitope transitioned into coaching, obtaining his Basic Coaching License in 2024 and his Advanced License in 2025. His coaching philosophy blends technical discipline, tactical innovation, and a strong emphasis on player development.
Speaking on his new role, Temitope expressed excitement about the opportunity to lead Phoenix Athletics SC, noting that his goal is to build a team known for excellence, unity, and resilience.
“I’m honoured to take on this responsibility. My focus is on developing young talents, instilling discipline, and ensuring that Phoenix Athletics competes at the highest level possible. The club’s philosophy, ‘We Are Born To Rise,’ truly reflects my vision for this team,” he said.
