The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 38 Cameroonian nationals who were found locked inside a building in the Mowe area of the state under suspicious circumstances.
The victims, made up of 22 men and 16 women, were reportedly lured into Nigeria by suspected fraudsters with promises of profitable business opportunities. Upon arrival, they were confined in a building located in the Adesan Abule Afa community.
According to sources familiar with the case, the rescue operation took place on Sunday during a routine patrol by officers in the area.
“The officers were on patrol when they heard strange noises coming from a building that appeared to be locked from the outside,” a source said. “When they forced entry, they discovered the Cameroonians inside. They looked distressed and had clearly been confined.”
A police officer who also spoke on the condition of anonymity said the victims claimed they were invited to Nigeria to invest in a scheme known as “Quinnet.”
Police have since launched an investigation into the matter, and efforts are ongoing to track down the individuals behind the scheme. Authorities are also working with relevant agencies to ensure the safe return of the victims to Cameroon.
