Founder of Grace and Mercy Prayer Mountain Worldwide, Prophet Sam Olu Alo, has said prayer on its own cannot address Nigeria’s challenges unless it is accompanied by love, unity and accountability.
Speaking on Wednesday night during the latest edition of his programme, You and Your Prophet on Adamimogo 93.1FM, Lagos, 105.1FM, Ibadan and 107.1FM, Ekiti, the cleric faulted some religious leaders for failing to speak truth to those in authority. He accused them of entertaining politicians, praising them and presenting awards instead of demanding performance.
“We cannot continue to clap for leaders who are not delivering on their mandate,” he said. “Spiritual leaders must stop seeking favour and start asking questions on behalf of the people.”
Olu Alo said he remains troubled by the state of the nation and called on citizens to insist on results from their elected representatives rather than relying on them for personal assistance.
“Nigerians must demand that they do the work they were elected to do,” he said. “If leaders fail to fulfil their promises, it shows a lack of love for the country and its people.”
He added that a culture of love and the fear of God must be rooted in society, noting that growth in other countries has been driven by responsible leadership and citizens who hold their governments to account.
“Prayer without action is empty. We must combine faith with responsibility,” he said. “Holding leaders accountable and building a nation founded on love and the fear of God is what brings progress.”
The cleric also urged Nigerians to be mindful of how they support others within their communities. He advised citizens living abroad to draw lessons from recent deportations of immigrants in parts of the world, including the United States, and to contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria and their local communities.
“We must build our own country and strengthen our communities wherever we find ourselves,” he said.
