The Presidency has called for a full investigation into remarks by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over an alleged wire-tapping of the National Security Adviser’s phone line.
El-Rufai had alleged that he and some others listened to the telephone conversations of Nuhu Ribadu after an individual tapped the NSA’s phone.
He defended the legality of the phone interception, acknowledging that it is technically illegal but claiming the government does it all the time.
However, reacting to El-Rufai’s statement, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga raised concerns about the implications of the claim for national security, stressing the need for accountability.
He called for a thorough investigation and punishment to serve as a deterrent.
