President Bola Tinubu has issued a direct order for a major security operation to apprehend the terrorists responsible for a brutal attack on communities in Niger State, which resulted in over 40 fatalities and numerous abductions.
In a strongly-worded statement personally signed by him and released on Sunday, the President condemned the assault in the Kasuwan Daji area and mobilised the nation’s top security apparatus.
President Tinubu has specifically directed the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, all Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face the full force of the law.
“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people. They must face the full consequences of their criminal actions,” President Tinubu declared.
He issued a stern warning not only to the attackers but also to their accomplices. “No matter who they are or what their intent is, they must be hunted down. In addition, those who aid, abet or enable them will also be brought to justice.”
The deadly attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents by armed groups, often referred to locally as bandits, in Nigeria’s north-central and northwestern regions. These groups have been responsible for widespread killings, kidnappings for ransom, and the displacement of thousands of civilians.
