Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, is currently leading other contenders in the Anambra State Governorship Election as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to upload results from polling units across the state.

INEC had uploaded more than 99 per cent of election results to its Results Viewing Portal (IReV), even as allegations of vote-buying and other electoral irregularities continue to trail the process.

Despite the early distribution of election materials and the high rate of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection, turnout remained low across several polling units, with reports suggesting voter apathy in both urban and rural areas.

Preliminary tallies indicate that Soludo is performing strongly in his traditional strongholds, particularly in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra South Senatorial District, as well as parts of Anambra Central.

Anambra State is made up of 21 local government areas spread across three senatorial districts—Anambra North, Central, and South.

According to INEC, a total of 2,802,790 registered voters were eligible to participate in the poll, including 140,370 newly registered voters spread across 326 wards. The election was conducted in 5,718 polling units, as two of the originally designated units had no registered voters.

Recall that sixteen political parties fielded candidates for the governorship race, including two women, marking another competitive and closely watched election in the state’s political history.
