The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives – Federal Health Institutions Sector (NANNM-FHI) says it will convene a meeting today (Saturday) to deliberate on promises made by the Federal Government during a negotiation session held on Friday.
Despite speculation, the association has clarified that its ongoing nationwide seven-day warning strike has not been suspended.
The National Public Relations Officer of NANNM-FHI, Omomo Tibiebi, confirmed that the strike, which began on Wednesday, is still in effect pending the outcome of the union’s meeting scheduled for today.
The nurses are demanding an upward review of shift allowances, adjustment of uniform allowance, a separate salary structure for nurses, increased core duty allowance, mass recruitment of nursing professionals, and the creation of a dedicated nursing department within the Federal Ministry of Health.
Friday’s meeting between the union and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment aimed to address these grievances, but union leaders say they will collectively evaluate the government’s proposals before taking a final stance.
