Popular social media personality Hamzat Habeeb, known to his millions of followers as “Peller,” is recovering in hospital after intentionally crashing his car during a live-streamed video on Sunday, sparking urgent conversations about mental health and digital responsibility.
The Lagos-based TikTok star was alone in his recently purchased Mercedes-Benz when he began a broadcast ominously titled “RIP Peller.”
During the stream, viewed by thousands in real time, Peller appeared visibly distressed while reportedly speaking with his girlfriend, identified as Jarvis, amid speculation about their relationship ending.
“I will use this car and have an accident right now,” he stated during the broadcast, later adding emotionally: “I’m scared. I’m scared.”
In one particularly alarming moment, he said: “If you leave me, people will mock me… Thank you, I’m going to kill myself.”
The footage showed him accelerating along the Lekki-Epe Expressway before deliberately steering into a concrete barrier, severely damaging the vehicle. Emergency services responded promptly, transporting Peller to an undisclosed medical facility. His current condition has not been publicly released.
