President Bola Tinubu has appointed assistant inspector-general of police Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police.
Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development following earlier unconfirmed reports on Egbetokun’s resignation which the ex-police chief premised on pressing family matters.
The President acknowledged Egbetokun’s dedication, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture during his tenure.
Onanuga said tinubu will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council shortly to formally consider the appointment of AIG Disu as substantive inspector-general of police, after which his name will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
Until his appointment, Disu served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
Disu is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a former head of the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force, a position previously held by Abba Kyari.
The Presidency assured Nigerians that the leadership transition would not disrupt ongoing security operations nationwide.
